Bommagani Dharma Bhiksham(b.1922) ,a veteran leader of Communist Party of India, was a member of the 10th Lok Sabha, and 11th Lok Sabha of India. He represented Nalgonda constituency of Andhra Pradesh both in Parliament of India and Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh from Communist Party of India(CPI) political party.

Personal Details

Political career

Dharma Biksham , having got attracted to the communist party beliefs during his school days joined Communist Party of India in 1942. He used to organize the general body meetings of CPI at a hostel run by him in Suryapet of Nalgonda district on behalf of the CPI. As a member of Andhra Mahasabha, he lead the several processions on behalf of farmers from Nalgonda district on foot to Vijaywada and Khammam. After India attained independence in 1947, Communist Party of India party led armed struggles against a series of local monarchs that were reluctant to give up their power particularly in Telangana, Tripura, and Kerala. Dharma Biksham was an active member in rebellion that took place in Telangana, against the Nizam of Hyderabad.

He first got elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Hyderabad State in 1952 from Suryapet assembly constituency. He got elected as a member of Parliament of India(MP) twice in 1991 and 1996 to represent Nalgonda parliamentary constituency in 10th Lok Sabha, and 11th Lok Sabha and he defeated 480 contendors in 1996 [ [http://164.100.24.209/newls/lokprev.aspx Former Lok Sabha Members] ] but lost in 1967 and 1980. Due to his age, he almost got retired from political life except participating in important Communist Party of India meetings in Andhra Pradesh as a senior leader. Also participating and representing agitations or dharnas on behalf of farmers, and toddy tappers held in Andhra Pradesh.
