Eugene Cook Bingham, born
7 December 1878 , died6 November 1945 ["New York Times", November 7, 1945, p 23 "DR. EUGENE BINGHAM; Leading Rheologist Organized Society in 1929--Dies at 67"] , was a professor and head of the Department ofChemistry atLafayette College . Bingham made many contributions torheology , a term he is credited (along withMarkus Reiner ) with introducing [J. F. Steffe (1996) "Rheological Methods in Food Process Engineering" 2nd ed ISBN 0-9632036-1-4 page 1] . He was a pioneer in both its theory and practice. The type of fluid known as aBingham plastic or Bingham Fluid is named after him, as is Bingham Stress.
