Southend UnitedJordan Daniel Kelly (born August 08, 1984 in Walthamstow, London) is an English football player who currently plays for Florida Atlantic University.
Club Career
Kelly started his career at
Leyton F.C. , playing for the U16's under the guidance of Bob Winwood. Making his way up the through the ranks, Kelly became quickly established in the reserves and first team, before being selected to joinSouthend United as a third year Scholar. Kelly was also selected to play for Essex County U19's in 2001/2002 in which he was the only player to play in all A team games for Essex County receiving the prestigious county cap for this achievement.At the age of 19, Kelly started his career as a Southend United U19's player under the guidance of Steve Tilson (Southend United First Team Manager). As a starting left back, Kelly once again became quickly established earning a spot on the reserves side playing with players such as
Wolverhampton Wanderers and England U21'sMichael Kightly .College Career
Kelly was released from Southend United in 2004 but subsequently was awarded a full athletic scholarship to attend
Anderson University in the United States which he accepted in 2005. As a freshman (2006), Kelly started all 19 games for Rob Miller at Anderson University. He led the team in goals (10), assists (5), points (25), shots (42), and game-winning goals (4). He was named second-team all-conference (Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference, Division II). He set school record for most points in a game (10 - 4G, 2A) in 11-0 win over Emmanuel (10/12).After being at Anderson University for 2 years, Kelly moved on in 2007 by signing a letter in of intent to attend Florida Atlantic University, a Division 1 school in
Boca Raton, FL . Kelly became a first-team regular playing 16 out of 20 games for FAU. Career highlights include scoring a penalty in the conference final against Longwood to help lead FAU to their first conference title. His first full season with the FAU was hampered by a persistent groin injury suffered in October 2007, eventually undergoing surgery in May 2008.International Career
FAU's spring 2008 season saw Kelly starting in games against two
Major League Soccer (MLS) teams and three international clubs. With such a promising spring season, Kelly soon caught the eye of Jamaican national team managerRenê Simões , and was selected to attend tryouts for the Jamaican national team. Kelly made an appearance for the Jamaican national team against Jamaica's U21's and started against an All-Star team fromMontego Bay .
