George Marples

George Marples

"Not to be confused with George Marple, also a Derbyshire cricketer."

George Marples (May 30, 1883 — December 30, 1947) was an English cricketer. He was a left-arm medium-fast bowler who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire. He was born in Attercliffe and died in Chesterfield.

Marples made two first-class appearances for the team, the first in an Australian tour of the British Isles and the second a week later against Marylebone Cricket Club - the latter of which, with Derbyshire suffering a defeat by a margin of an innings and 252 runs, remains one of Derbyshire's heaviest defeats in first-class cricket.

Marples was a tailend batsman and occasional bowler who took just one wicket in his short career.
