The 2002–2003 season was Hereford United's 6th season in the Conference National which saw them finish 6th.

Following the club's troubled 2001-02 season when they finished 17th, the majority of the first team squad were released, with only six contracted players remaining. Retrieved on 21 June 2008.] Leading goalscorer Gavin Williams was offered a new contract, but chose instead to sign for Yeovil Town who paid Hereford £22,500. Graham Turner built a new squad, drawing largely from the pool of players released from Football League clubs, a consequence of the ITV Digital collapse. For the first time in their history the club allocated squad numbers to the first team, as did the rest of the clubs in the Conference National.
