- Six Man, Texas
"Six Man, Texas", released in 2008, is a
documentary film that exploressix-man football as identity in the public high schools of the 160 small towns inTexas that play it. It also focuses on the struggle of these towns to keep their schools open, and thus survive as a community, when economic realities and school consolidation efforts conspire against them. The film documents the collapse of Three Way School in far West Texas and the devastation it lead to in the surrounding community. But at the heart of the film is the 2000 season of the Aquilla Cougars, whose unlikely march to the state title illustrates the never-say-die attitude of these tiny Texas towns. At the center of this story are five players from Aquilla (population 136), their coach, and their families. It is the debut film from film maker Alan Barber.References
