Psychometric artificial intelligence
- Psychometric artificial intelligence
Psychometric Artificial Intelligence (PAI) is the discovery of the nature of human and machine cognition by means of engineering systems that solve tests of mental ability, and in the process it should be possible to use these discoveries to promote practical applications. PAI is a standard to drive Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and evaluate whether it has been successful. PAI gives us a functional measure of AI in applications, a step above the Turing test which can be fairly subjective depending on the interrogator.
History of PAI
The term was first coined in 2003 by Dr. Selmer Bringsjord and Dr. Bettina Schimanski in their IJCAI '03 journal article entitled "What is Artificial Intelligence? Psychometric AI as an Answer." Additional information can also be found in their AAAI '04 paper "Pulling It All Together via Psychometric AI."
