- Avery Sharpe
Avery Sharpe (b. 1955) is an American
jazz double-bass ist.Sharpe began playing piano at age eight and also studied
accordion in his youth. He learned both electric and acoustic bass as a teenager, then studied withReggie Workman at theUniversity of Massachusetts . He played withWynton Marsalis andPat Metheny before joiningMcCoy Tyner 's sextet; since 1984 he has played with Tyner's trio. He has also played as a sideman withArchie Shepp ,Yusef Lateef ,Ricky Ford ,Joe Ford , and others. As a leader, he has release onSunnyside Records , and several albums on his own label, JKNM.Discography
