Ed Stafford is a British explorer and expedition leader [ [http://www.trekforce.org.uk/about_us/whos_who.htm Trekforce Worldwide: Who's who] ] who started running expeditions after retiring from the British Army as a captain in 2002. Ed, a former expelled student of Uppingham School [Read Old Uppinghamian article [http://www.olduppinghamian.co.uk/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=221&srcid=183] ] has led several expeditions to Patagonia, Borneo and Belize. Whilst not leading expeditions Ed worked alongside the United Nations in Afghanistan assisting with the first ever presidential elections advising on security, planning and logistics. Prior to his current expedition Ed was in production with the BBC on their conservation series "Lost land of the Jaguar".

He is expected to be at the river's mouth in Brazil in late 2009.
