European Society of Cardiology

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is an organization of more than 45,000 cardiology professionals across Europe and the Mediterranean. Seven cardiology journals are published and edited by the ESC. [ [http://www.escardio.org/journals/Pages/welcome.aspx ESC journals] ] Also, the ESC has collaborated with the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and other organizations to produce guidelines and consensus statements related to the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

The first meeting of the ESC was held in Brussels in 1949 and the first ESC Congress was held in Paris in 1952. Initially, ESC Congresses were held every four years but this was changed in 1988 to an annual event.
