Third-party ownership in association football

Third-party ownership in association football is the ownership of a player's transfer rights by third party sources, such as football agents or sports management agencies. The Argentine international players Carlos Tévez and Javier Mascherano both signed for English team West Ham United from Brazilian side Corinthians on 31st August 2006, for a fee of £12 million.
