- Licavoli Mob
Notability|date=June 2008The Licavoli Mob was a Sicilian–American mob that was based in
Detroit andSt. Louis .The Mob was formed by brothers Thomas "Yonnie" Licavoli and Peter "Pete" Licavoli, and cousin Jack Licavoli.
Background
The family formed after Peter Licavoil broke off the Purple gang in the 1930s and started extorting local businesses. The family's first official Don was Peter Licavoli. The family was officially recognized in 1939 and had strong ties to the Giordano family in St. Louis. The family prospered and they used Angelo Licavoli's Villa Nova Italian restaurant as their base until it closed in the 1980s. The family formally collapsed in 1983 after the last Made Man was killed. The Family turf stretched from Toledo to Detroit.
Formation
Peter Licavoli thought he deserved to get promoted to boss of the Purple Gang but when they decided to use their judge to put Licavoli in jail for a year. But by the time Licavoli got out of jail the Purple gang had dissolved he started extorting local Italian, German, Jewish, Irish, and Lebanese business with his brothers Yonnie, Domnic, Angelo and cousins Jack and Anthony. They were quickly named the Licavoli mob and a year later they were recognized by Detroit Boss Joe Zaluchi and the next year they were oficcaly recognized by the National Comisson. Their turf by the early 50's stretched from Detroit to most of Michigan parts of the Upper Peinsula of Michigan (which was shared by the Up based Riccmi family) they also had interests in
New York ,Ohio (especially Toledo)Sicily ,Naples ,Los angeles , andSt Louis ..The Licavoli–Riccmi mob wars
When Licavoli ally mob boss Anthony Giordano died from cancer in 1980 Mikey Trupiano came to the Licavoli mob to help him secure the position of boss in St Louis. Then-boss James Licavoli agreed on certain conditions: that the Licavolis could put their Capo Micheal DeAngelo as the boss of the local union and that St Louis had to be willing to do business with the Detroit family. But the Leisures were backed by the Licavolis' archrivals the Riccmis. The Licavolis struck first; they bombed the Riccmis' club and killed a made man. The Riccmis struck back and almost killed Jack Licavoli. The fighting went on for six months until the Leisures formally surrendered the position to Trupiano. The Riccmis' territory had been reduced salutewhat Marie in the Up, their boss Giovanni Riccmi had been killed, and of course the Trupianos kept their word on the conditions.
Modern Era
by the 80s the Licavolis had been crippled by the war between the African American and Italian gang in Detroit. James Licavoli was old and crippled and their criminal empire crumbled when the last made man of the Licavolis was killed by an Italian street gang boss. The Detroit Partnership filled the power vacuum left by the Licavolis.
