Stanisław Lorentz

Stanisław Lorentz (1899-1991) - Polish scholar of music and history of art. Born in Radom in 1929 he moved to Vilnius.cite book | last = Venclova | first = Tomas | authorlink = Tomas Venclova | coauthors = | title = Vilniaus Vardai | publisher = | date = 2006 | location = Vilnius | pages = 242| url = | doi = | id = | isbn = 9986-830-96-6 ] In the interwar Poland he worked as the Art conservation officer, lectured at the Stefan Batory University in Wilno (then in Poland, now Vilnius in Lithuania), and since 1935, director of the National Museum in Warsaw. He was a high ranking member of the Polish Underground State during German occupation of Poland, tasked with preserving Polish cultural heritage. After the war, he resumed his post as the director of the National Museum in Warsaw; he became a member of several governmental departments and commissions related to art conservation and was also a deputy to the Polish Sejm (1965–1969). UNESCO expert on Polish cultural heritage, highly active in the restoration of the Royal Castle, Warsaw. Member of Polish Academy of Learning and Polish Academy of Sciences.

He held intensive correspondence with Lithuanian art conservation specialist Vladas Drėma. The letters were published in 1998.
