Ian G. Roberts (born
October 23 ,1957 in Stamford,Lincolnshire ,England ) isProfessor ofLinguistics at theUniversity of Cambridge and a fellow ofDowning College, Cambridge .He received his
PhD from theUniversity of Southern California in1985 and taught at the Universities ofGeneva (1985-1993), Bangor (1991-1996) andStuttgart (1996-2000) before taking up his present position at Cambridge in 2000. He is a fellow ofDowning College .Professor Roberts is a generative linguist and enthusiastic adopter of Chomsky's
Minimalist Program . He has published widely in the synchronic and diachronicsyntax of Romance andGermanic languages and Welsh.A lifelong lover of music, Ian grew up with
Van der Graaf Generator ,Frank Zappa ,Brian Eno ,King Crimson andHenry Cow , inColwyn Bay ,North Wales , in the shadow of Bryn Euryn.External links
