Birkur is geographically located in Nizamabad district and on Manjeera river bed. A village never looks back, always forward and sets new milestones and dimensions on its own.

Population:

Birkur village population is approximately 25,000 and the mandal population is around 45,000. Variety of people mix and diversions.

Villages and Lakes:

Birkur mandal has around 41 villages with 45 lakes, which carries adequate water (if conserved from rain harvest) for all of Birkur mandal for agriculture and drinking.

Birkur is one of the historical village built next to Manjeera river bed. Rich of agricultural farms with paddy, sugar cane, peanuts, sunflower are the major crops. Birkur is a cosmopolitan village/suburbs with mix of locals, local tribes, people from across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharastra. Birkur has advantages of being in AP, near to Maharastra and Karnataka. A few international visitors visit Birkur once in a while. Birkur experienced growth in higher education in the last 10 years.

History:

Birkur is ruled by the local kings/munisabs until independence, with a couple of forts with guards and a compound protecting the village. Now it is on it's own under government of India/AP.

Economy:

Birkur's major economy is agriculture (85%), and the rest is small businesses, government and the private service sector. Birkur produced some unique businessmen and industrialists flurishing in and outside birkur.

Transportation

Birkur is well connected by APSRTC with cities and towns like Nizamabad, Hyderabad, Bodhan, Banswada, Kamareddy, Yella reddy, Varni, Kotagiri.

Birkur recently experienced heavy private vehicle population and petrol bunk. What a big change (?)

Crops:

Birkur is home for many types of crops like Paddy, Sugar cane, sunflower, peanuts(ground nuts), soyabean, vegitables, fruits.

Water and Irrigation:

Birkur does not depend on government promises, but self sustained with lakes, some on Manjeera river, Nizamsagar canal and more on borewells.

What Birkur wants:

Birkur needs large investments in industrial development in $4 to 6 billion to industrialize Birkur and set new dimensions. This should make Birkur a industrial place in the district. Birkur needs a railway line, and a terminal to serve the future purpose of daily passengers of around 20,000 per day and thousands of tonnes of cargo to nearest airports and sea ports.
