"Amalda novaezelandiae" is a small sea snail, a gastropod mollusc of the family Olividae, the olives.

Range of distribution

This species is endemic to New Zealand. It is found around the North Island, the north of the South Island, and on the Chatham Rise.

Habitat

This olive lives from shallow water to depths of about 550 m.

hell description

The shell is small and ovate, sometimes with a heavily callused spire.

The external shell coloration is viable, but usually pale, and takes the form of bands; the spire callus is white except for a sutural zone of orange-brown, a broad white band, and an orange-brown area in the central area of the body whorl, The shell height is up to 10 mm, and the width is up to 5 mm.
