Fredrick Glaser was born in southern Illinois into a family of
barber s. He began styling at the early age of 15. Fred graduated from the high school in London Mills, IL, married, had a daughter, and served in the US Navy. He went on to study art atBradley University and sculpted commercially before moving toChicago in 50’s.Professional Life
After moving to Chicago, Fred opened a series of successful beauty shops. With his natural talent and ease of learning, it wasn’t long before Fred became a hit sensation among the female clientele in Chicago. Word spread and soon he could be found on film and television stages, in the theater-before the lights or backstage, in photographic studios, and on location anywhere from California to New York and even to Brighton, England.

Fred met Barbra Streisand, and what started out as a friendship bloomed into a working relationship that lasted a number of years and included photographs, press shots, albums, television shows, concerts, and a movie. * Fred meets and becomes friends with Doris Duke, who at the time was known as one of the richest women in the world (granddaughter of Duke University founder). They remained life long friends.1961
