The College of William & Mary School of Education was created as its own entity, separate from other educational facets at the College, in 1961. The first doctoral degree from the SOE was awarded in 1972. Presently, the School offers a liberal arts education and seeks to fuse undergraduate and graduate learning together. Interestingly, the College is home to the first
student teacher in America. In 1690, a teacher fromMaryland sought assistance to improve his own teaching abilities and received help from a College instructor.References
