Music Institute of Chicago Established 1931 Location Chicago, Illinois Music Institute of Chicago (formerly the Music Center of the North Shore) is a community music school in Illinois with campuses in Downers Grove, Evanston, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Northbrook and Winnetka.
Founded in 1931, MIC has expanded over the years to its current status as an institution serving more than five thousand students at six campuses. Resident ensembles include the Lincoln Trio and Quintet Attacca. Prominent faculty members include Hans Jorgen Jensen, Alan Chow, David Cunliffe, Cyrus Forough, Karl E. H. Seigfried, Abraham Stokman, and Roland and Almita Vamos.
In recent years, MIC has embarked on a wide-ranging expansion. They have created an Academy program for "the serious and gifted" and merged with two other community schools, Music Arts School and Lake Forest Symphony School.
