Taughmonagh

Taughmonagh

Taughmonagh is a small estate in South Belfast in Northern Ireland. It consists mainly of a Protestant population which was home to much UDA, Ulster Defence Association, activity such as a man in 2007 being the victim of a "Tarring And Feathering" attack, but now the community have come together to tackle this activity to bring peace to the area. When the area was first built, the houses consisted of very basic, small, tin bungalows. The area was regenerated and there are now approximately 2,000 houses which were previously built for the army. These houses are owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, but within recent years many of the residents have bought these houses making it more of a private housing estate. The name "Taughmonagh" came from "Hill on a Bog" which Taughmonagh supposedly is situated on.
