Pot Casserole

Pot Casserole

Originally available in the early 1980s, Pot Casserole was an instant convenience food made of dehydrated vegetables, soya protein and flavourings, made loosely to resemble a British style meal of casserole.

Sold in a plastic pot and manufactured by Golden Wonder, Pot Casserole could be considered a close cousin of Pot Noodle and Pot Rice, although its appeal was not as wide as Pot Noodle and the brand disappeared from view sometime in the late 1980s.

Pot Casserole could be prepared by adding boiling water to the contents of the plastic pot. The dehydrated food would start to swell, and after two minutes the mixture was stirred and a small sachet containing HP sauce added. After three further minutes, Pot Casserole was ready to eat. Flavours included "Beef", "Chicken" and "Lamb", all of which were suitable for vegetarians, with dried textured soya protein substituted for meat.
