- RSPB Strumpshaw Fen
RSPB Strumpshaw Fen is a
nature reserve in the care of theRoyal Society for the Protection of Birds . It is situated atStrumpshaw Fen , afen on theRiver Yare in Norfolk,England .It is one of the few breeding sites in
Great Britain of the Swallowtail Butterfly.During the summer months a meadow walk is open that is a riot of wild flowers and butterflies of all sorts. The woodland walks are worth a look too. On the whole this reserve rewards patience and dedication, do not go here if you want instant gratification, because it wont be for you. Time spent sitting and waiting will often be rewarded.
Birds of note that can be seen here include;
Kingfisher ,Marsh harrier ,Hen harrier , summer migrants such asReed warblers ,Black Caps ,Whitethroat . Waterfowl includeGadwall ,Great Crested Grebe andLittle Grebe s.Warning: wear good walking boots, a full circuit will take a long time!
