Hong Kong MTR West Island Line , an extension to the existing HK-MTR lines|Island.Naming disputes
There have been disputes among locals and district councilors over the station's name. Some have suggested to restore the previous official name Belcher (寶翠, IPA2|pəʊ35 tsʰʊɪ33, bou2 ceoi3, Bǎocuì) after
The Belcher's , a housing development in the area, as well asBelcher Street (卑路乍街) andBelcher Bay (卑路乍灣). Some believed that the MTRC's decision to change the name to University was not well-consulted within the community, while others worried that it might cause confusion with another existing University station on the HK-MTR lines|East Rail. Some have also suggested Shek Tong Tsui as the name as the station would serve the
Shek Tong Tsui area.uggested designs
Under the latest proposal as of June
2005 , the station would serve as ancross-platform interchange station between West Island Line and the west section of South Island Line, instead of being a midway station of the West Island Line (now known as West Section of South Island Line) as in the earlier proposals. The station will be located under Queen's Road West and Belcher Street. In addition, the MTR has planned to build elevators to link University Station to Hong Kong University.
