Bellwoods

Bellwoods

Bellwoods was a provincial electoral district in the west end of Toronto, Ontario, Canada from 1924 to 1987.

The riding elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (after 1938, renamed Members of Provincial Parliament) to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The district was named after Trinity-Bellwoods Park and included much of the area west of Bathurst Street south of Bloor Street and west to Dovercourt Road. The riding was working class and largely made up of immigrants.

Today, it is divided among the modern ridings of Trinity--Spadina and Davenport. A number of the ridings MPPs were progressive and left-wing, including A.A. MacLeod, who, with J.B. Salsberg, was one of only two Communist legislators ever elected to the Ontario legislature. The riding was created before the 1923 election, and abolished prior to the 1987 election due to redistribution.
