- The Fiction Department
The Fiction Department is a
rock and roll band out ofNewark, Delaware . They have been playing together in some form since the beginning of the decade, when bass player Terry Morris and drummer Philip Abrams began writing and playing casually with friends. It was during this time that the two came up with the name Jaundis, a name that would later be replaced after changes to the band's lineup and musical direction. In 2001, Brendan Sullivan assumed the role of lead singer, lending voice to musical thought, and two years later, Chris Chamberlain completed the group's sound on guitar. In the Fall of 2003, the band first entered the studio after having been in their current form for just two months. They recorded four tracks at Clay Creek Studios in Newark and aptly named their first sonic venture "Birth" after the album's opening track.
Over the next two years the band became a staple at Newark's now defunct Ground Floor nightclub, and performed a multitude of shows across Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The band continued writing and rehearsing with the goal of creating their next release.
In November of 2005, the band entered Milkboy Recording Studio, located just outside of
Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania . Enlisting the help of engineer Michael Nuceder (Sebastian Bach) and the mastering skills of Tommy Joyner (Octane, Ashanti), the band recorded and produced four tracks in a period of three days. A Small Part, Porcelain, Charge and New Moral came together to form the band's first recorded materials in two years. It was during their latest studio session that the band began considering a name change. After three years of performing together, Jaundis made their final appearance under that title on February 17th 2006 in
Wilmington, Delaware . The show featured the band's long time friends in Bombs Away and Radiowhore and marked the adoption of a new name: The Fiction Department. In the Spring of 2008, The Fiction Department underwent a lineup change after parting with Morris. The band is now writing and rehearsing all new material and plans to resume playing live in the Fall of 2008.
