Pontiac Polaris

The Pontiac Polaris was the proposed name for a Pontiac-badged twin of the Chevrolet Corvair. Although a number of full-size mockups of the Polaris were built by the General Motors Styling Studios, the car never made it to production. At the time, Pontiac chief engineer John Z. DeLorean was not a proponent of the Corvair's rear-mounted, air-cooled six-cylinder engine.

The division did, however use the Corvair's transaxle in the forthcoming Pontiac Tempest compact, which featured a front-mounted, water-cooled four-cylinder engine, and a flexible driveshaft leading to the rear-mounted transaxle.
