Gleneagle Secondary School, or simply Gleneagle, is a public coeducational high school located in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The school serves grades nine through twelve and has an enrollment of about 1,450 students. It is run by School District 43 Coquitlam.

Arts

Broken Wing Theatre is the name given to theatre education at Gleneagle. The school has presented more than 200 scripted plays, most written by faculty member Richard Dixon, since it opened in 1997. In addition to the regular series of plays by acting classes, Broken Wing Theatre also features extracurricular plays twice a year, in early winter and spring. Extracurricular plays offer students in-depth training to supplement their regular acting classes. Broken Wing Theatre practices a style known as Black Box Theatre with minimal sets and basic lighting, so as to focus maximum energy on actor training rather than on the technical niceties of more lavish productions. This results in actor-focussed "bare-bones" productions that sometimes render reasonably convincing performances. The motto of Broken Wing Theatre is "Sulum Vox Must Audimini", which can be translated as either "Every Word Must be Heard", or "Each Cry Must be Heard". Vocal training and script analysis receive high priority, as the success of a play is dependent first and foremost on the clear, intelligent delivery of spoken words. The use of scripts is an unwavering feature of Broken Wing Theatre's approach to actor training: at any given point, all actors in the program are either rehearsing or performing scripted plays. The stage doesn't lie, and Broken Wing actors are repeatedly and frequently confronted with their inadequacies when facing audiences, which motivates them to strive for truthful, effective performances.
