Samuel Jones (b. July 26, 1734 at Oyster Bay, then Queens, now Nassau County, New York - d. November 21, 1819) was an American lawyer and politician.
Career
He was a member of the New York State Assembly representing Queens County from 1786 to 1790. He was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1788, but did not attend the session. He was a member of the New York State Senate from 1791 to 1799.
On February 17, 1797, the office of New York State Comptroller was created by the New York State Legislature to succeed the State Auditor. On March 15, Jones was appointed by the Council of Appointment the first holder of the office, serving until 1800.
Family
He married Cornelia Haring, and their son was Chancellor Samuel Jones.
