Santo Tomas is a 1st class municipality in the province of Batangas, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 113,105 people. Edna Sanchez is the wife of Armando C. Sanchez, the former governor of Batangas and the current mayor of this municipality. The town is a gateway to the province from Laguna. It borders the cities of Calamba City, Laguna to the west, Los Baños, Laguna to the north, Alaminos, Laguna to the east, Tanauan City, Batangas, Malvar, Batangas, and Lipa City, Batangas to the south. This is also the hometown of Philippine Revolution and Philippine-American War hero Miguel Malvar.

Roads

The town connects with the neighboring cities of Calamba City, Laguna and Alaminos, Laguna via the Maharlika Highway. The Southern Tagalog Arterial Road starts at the municipality from the north side of the expressway. The expressway connects the town with the rest of Batangas. Currently the expressway is being connected to the South Luzon Expressway. The Jose P. Laurel Highway is route that connects the town with Tanauan City, Malvar, and Lipa City

Buildings and Structures

The First Philippine Industrial Park which is owned by the Lopez Group of Companies is located in the municipality [ [http://www.fpip.com First Philippine Industrial Park] ] . But there are also some developed subdivisions along the town like the San Antonio Heights in Barangay San Antonio which was developed by Avida Land, A division of Ayala Land [ [http://www.avidaland.com/properties.php?id=1483&San_Antonio_Heights San Antonio Heights] ] , and Portello which was developed by Camella Homes [ [http://www.commphil.com/communities-batangas/portello/index.html Portello] ] . The town is also home to a state of the art hospital named St. Cabrini Medical Center which is located inside the town center.

Current Officials

The current set of local officials are elected last to 2007 and will serve their terms until 201907. The mayor is Edna P. Sanchez, wife of former Batangas Gov. Arman Sanchez. Armenius Silva is the incumbent vice mayor. Sangguniang Bayan is composed of the following: Catherine Jaurigue, Gerard Malijan, Karl Villegas, Ross Maligaya, Danilo Mabilangan, Adolfo Malipol, Renato Mangaban, and Paul Navarro.

Built up Area

With the continuous expansion of Metro Manilla, the municipality is now included in Manilla built up area which reaches Lipa City, Batangas in its southernmost part.
