Hissein Atie

Hissein Atie

Hissein Atie (born 1978 in Chad) is a serial rapist, known for a series of male rapes around Glasgow city centre in 2007. His victims tended to be young men in a state of distress. He was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison, at Glasgow crown court on the 3rd on June 2008.

Atie immigrated to the UK from Chad in 2000. Upon sentencing it was said by Ian Peebles QC that "It's quite clear that you are a sexual, violent predator who has targeted young and vulnerable men. There is a clear need to protect the general public and in particular young men from a person such as you."

Atie's first victim was a 21-year-old man who was in a distressed state in Glasgow's Buchanan Street in January 2007, after an argument with his partner. Atie asked the man if he was alright before dragging him into Springfield Lane, Glasgow, where he was sexually assaulted.

His second victim was found by police wandering the city centre streets in May 2007, after he was beaten and sexually assaulted by Atie. The 23-year-old, who was also upset after a row with his girlfriend, was taken by Atie to a flat, where he was attacked.

His third victim, an 18-year-old male, managed to run away after Atie tried to prevent him leaving his flat last June.

Atie offered his fourth victim accommodation for the night, after he found him in a distressed state in the city's George Square during July 2007. The man woke up to find Atie committing sodomy on him.

After sentencing Atie proclaimed the attacks as false accusations, stating his victim were simply "Jealous of his job, house and car."
