Fellside Power Station

Fellside Power Station is a 188MWe CHP gas-fired power station near Seascale in Cumbria.

History

It is run as Fellside Heat and Power Ltd and is wholly owned by BNFL - became British Nuclear Group then Sellafield Ltd. It was built in 1993, being originally equally owned by BNFL and Scottish Hydro Electric (became Scottish and Southern Energy in December 1998), with Hydro Electric getting about 100MWe of electricity to sell to customers on the National Grid, and BNFL getting what was left over. BNFL bought SSE's 50% share in January 2002. It supplies steam and heat to the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant, which is next door. It is a CCGT-type power station that uses natural gas. It has three 50MWe General Electric Frame 6581 gas turbines. Electricity enters the National Grid, via a transformer, at 132kV
