It is run as Fellside Heat and Power Ltd and is wholly owned by
BNFL - became British Nuclear Group thenSellafield Ltd . It was built in 1993, being originally equally owned by BNFL andScottish Hydro Electric (becameScottish and Southern Energy in December 1998), with Hydro Electric getting about 100MWe of electricity to sell to customers on the National Grid, and BNFL getting what was left over. BNFL bought SSE's 50% share in January 2002. It supplies steam and heat to theSellafield nuclear reprocessing plant, which is next door.
