Biography

Director N. Shankar hails from Nalgonda District. He is the eldest son of Sri. Nimmala Guruvaiah and Smt. Nimmala Sakkubayamma. He joined films through senior artist sri Dr.Prabhakar Reddy and worked with him and many other prominent directors. His first film as a director was Encounter for Padmalaya Studios, which proved him as a good director with a good taste for music too. He directed Sri Ramulaiah and Yama Jaathakudu with Mohan Babu and Jayam Manade Raa with Venkatesh. Then he made Bhadrachalam with Srihari which was a big hit. He then completed Aayudham with Dr. Rajasekhar which was released in May, 2003. His next project Nammanna was in Kannada with Hero Sudeep. Then he did his latest movie
Raam with Tollywood's Young Hero Nitin Kumar Reddy. He is now venturing for the first time in a multilingual (Telugu & Tamil) block buster.

With just Eight films, Director N. Shankar grew as one of the good directors of Tollywood.

N. Shankar’s films won many State and Private Awards not limited to Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Awards, A.P. Cinegoer’s Association Annual Awards, Manikchand Film Fare Awards, Bharatamuni Awards etc.

N. Shankar’s movies Encounter, Sri Ramulaiah, Yamajathakudu, Jayam Manadera were voted in the popular ratings of telugu movies 1996-2000.

Jayam Manade Raa won two Nandi Awards for the year 2000 for Best Supporting Actress – Jhansi and Best Villain - Jayaprakash Reddy. Also, for Jayam Manadera, Venkatesh won the Best Actor Award in the 48th South Indian Manikchand Film Fare Awards.

Bhadrachalam won the Best Experimental Film Award in the 15th Bharathamuni Awards along with the Best Actor Award for Srihari and Best Character Actor – A.V.S. Bhadrachalam also won a Nandi Award for 2001-2002 for Best Fight Master – Vijay. Bhadrachalam also bagged two more prestigious A.P. Cinegoer’s Association 32nd Annual Awards for Special Commendation for Srihari and Vijaya Chander.

N.Shankar was also elected to be a member in the Jury for the 51st National Film Awards for 2003.
