- Théâtre Lyrique
Théâtre Lyrique (or Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial) was one of three separate 19th century
opera houses inParis (the other two being Opèra andOpéra-Comique ), located on thePlace du Châtelet by theSeine . The original theatre was inaugurated in 1851 and lasted for full 19 seasons until 1871 when it burnt down. It has since been rebuilt and closely resembles the original, but its repertoire no longer includes operas (seeThéâtre de la Ville ).A number of
French opera s had theirpremiere in that theatre. Among those were:* "

* "Les Dragons de Villars " byMaillart in 1856
* "Faust" byGounod in 1859
* "Les Troyens " byBerlioz in 1863
* "Les Pêcheurs de Perles " byBizet in 1863
* "La jolie fille de Perth " by Bizet in 1867
* "Roméo et Juliette" by Gounod in 1867Also some non-French operas had their revivals at the Théâtre Lyrique during that period. Most famous were:
