Susan Easton Black is a professor of Church History and Doctrine at
Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo,Utah . She is also an author of several books related toJoseph Smith, Jr. and the early history ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .Black joined the faculty of BYU in 1978. Black received the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Award in 2000. She is married to Harvey B. Black, who is an emeritus professor of Instructional Psychology and Technology at BYU.
