It remains as an influential comprehensive university in China.Due to the geographical factors, this university has been left behind by many peers, many of which had been catered to by Henan University during their initialization, as Kaifeng, former capital of Henan province where this university is located, has become a so-called "Deserting Noble". As a public university funded by government, it usually suffers insuffient financial support from local and central government.
The graduates from this university is not encouraged to admit their origin as this university never enjoyed the the reputation and prestigious as an influential educational institution. The depressed job market disappointed many graduates as they are not well prepared to face the challenges.
Current situation is not optimistic as no one believes this university will restore its dignity and reputation in the education community of mainland China.
