Gordon David Savage [ [http://www.npg.org.uk/live/search/portrait.asp?LinkID=mp76407&rNo=1&role=sit NPG details] ] was an Anglican Bishop who served in two posts [ The Times, Thursday, Dec 05, 1963; pg. 5; Issue 55876; col E "Ecclesiastical News Next Bishop Of Southwell, Right Rev. G. D. Savage "] between 1960 and 1970. Born on 14 April 1915 he was educated at Reading School and St Catherine's College, Oxford and ordained in 1940 [ Who was Who 1987-1990: London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X ] after an earlier career as a Librarian. His first post was as Chaplain, Lecturer and Tutor at "Tyndale Hall, Bristol" after which he was successively General Secretary of the Church Mission Society , Vicar of Marston, Oxford [ [http://www.headington.org.uk/history/marston_history/misc/vicars.htm Incumbency details] ] and Archdeacon of Buckingham before elevation to the eponymous Suffragan Bishopric. After four years he was translated to Southwell where he remained until retirement [Crockford's clerical directory1976 Lambeth, Church House, 1975 ISBN 0108153676] . He died on 9 June 1990
