Aníbal Lovera (January 26, 1926—January 23, 1994) was a Paraguayan composer and singer. He was a folklorist and an exponent of epic music. He was one of the singers and composers who knew how to reach the popular taste. He was a singer of the Chaco war epics.Anibal was born in Paraguay, in the department of Paraguari, in the city of Quyquyho, in a humble house, on January 26, 1926, and died in Asuncion, January 23, 1994, after having spent his last days completely blind, with a disease that kept him in bed for a long time.

Childhood and Youth

His life was not easy, he was a creator and an interpreter, who seems to appear from nothing, and with it he manifested his own view of the reality. His music does not live just as a simple mixture of sounds, but almost always is regarding something.His first steps within the music field were with the choir of th school Pedro Juan Caballero. There he showed his voice qualities, a talent which was to take him to be one of the most loved ones in the field of the paraguayan folk music,due to his excellent qualities , with a national feeling, whose leadership also makes it possible to awake the conscience and sensitivity of his countrymen.He began his guitar studies and his music formation at the Ateneo Paraguayo with Dionisio Basualdo, his first teacher ,who lead him through the knowledge of music.In the 40´s he formed his first groups together with Felipe Sosa and Guillermo Vera, so as to try to conquer the stages and to look for success in the career he had chosen, the music.

His songs were always placed with a unique style, given by his special voice, and standing out by the characteristics of his compositions, which always had epic stories or portraying great personalities, both civil or military, sang with a colloquial but vibrant voice.Throughout his long careers as a singer, guitarist , author and composer, he belonged to different groups, together with other great talented people, who were to be proud of the native music of our country.

Great creator of Paraguayan music, with his creativity and inspiration, he shows a deep Paraguay, sensitive people, whose wounds suffered throughout the time are healed with the splendorous singing of gratitude to life , love , hope and dreams.Between 1948 and 1950 he forms part of the Conjunto Folklorico Guarani, directed by the master Julián Rejala, sang in duet with Wilma Ferreira, where Anibal Lovera was the main voice.On January 6,1950 he created his own group who were presented for the first time in the opening of Radio Guarani, which later was to be a famous radio of our country.

All the big groups had a good thought about the popular taste, had their best compositions with some disco graphic company. Anibal Lovera and his group had that opportunity when in 1957 he signed a contract and recorded his first long play ( LP) for the Marpar seal, from then on, he began his success and the many presentations.In the 60´s they were presented in a seminar in Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires, Argentina.One of his disco graphic productions, “Dulce Margarita” gave him the Golden Disc by its sales, from RCA International.In 1961 he got the first prize in a Nacional Contest of Popular Music, organized by the Marpar disco graphic seal and Villalonga Hermanos, a very well known store of the time, and this prize gave him an even better position .Between 1970 and 1980 he participated constantly on TV shows, such as “ Asi canta mi Patria”, a program which was dedicated to spread the best compositions of the native repertoire, together with friend and members of his group, such as an excellent musician, Reinaldo Sanabria, Papi Meza, Rodolfo Roa, Lorenzo Leguizamon and others.

Throughout his career he recorded more than 30 records (LP)most of his songs were of epic times, remembering the battles of the Chaco War, between 1932 and 1935, as well as his songs which were always about known military or civil personalities.By the success obtained with the sales of his records, which were well over the minimum required by the recording companies, he won a golden disc given by RCA International, for his song Dulce Margarita.Among his successful material we can mention the following songs:

Discography

He recorded more than 30 discs, specially from the repertoire related to the Chaco War (Paraguay- Bolivia 1932-1935).For his success, he received a golden disc given by RCA International, for the sales of Dulce Margarita.
