- Anastasios Andreou
Anastasios Andreou ( _el. Αναστάσιος Ανδρέου, 1877 – 1947) was a Greek athlete from
Cyprus . He competed at the1896 Summer Olympics inAthens .He was born in
Limassol in 1877. He studied in the Greek School of Limassol and he showed the first things of his talent in the School Games by being declared as a Multi-victorious Champion.He achieved many victories in the First Cyprus Games which were taken part in Limassol in 1896 and wininng in 100 metres and 110 metres hurdles and jumping. He represented Cyprus in the first Panhellenic Games in the 110 metres hurdling.
Andreou competed in the 110 metres hurdles. His time in the preliminary heat is not recorded, but it is known that he finished fourth and did not advance to the final.His success in Panhellenic Games and participation at Olympics were an honour for Sport in Cyprus. He was a voluneer in the Greek army for the Greek-Turkish war of 1897 and fought in Domokon Derven, Phoulnea and
Farsala .He married Penelope Eraclidou and had one son and two daughters. He died in 1947.
