Vienna in 2004, beatingGuillermo Cañas in the final. He also has won one doubles title inStockholm also in 2004, withFernando Verdasco .In 2005 he was the first male Spanish tennis player to reach the quarter-final of Wimbledon since 1972, when
Manuel Orantes reached the semi-finals. This is Lopez's best Grand Slam result so far. He is currently ranked 22nd in the ATP Rankings and is 28th in the ATP Race. His highest ranking is 20th. He is sponsored by Wilson andJoma .Playing Style
Like many of the top spanish players Lopez is left-handed, however unlike some of his compatriots he uses a single-handed backhand. Once during a Davis Cup match when Spain played the U.S., Jimmy Arias a commentator said that, "Lopez may have the weakest backhand of any top 50 player Iv'e ever seen, maybe with the exception of Fernando Vicente." He is known for his strong serve and ability to play balls repetitively on the baseline. He is also a confident net player and has been known to adopt the serve-and-volley routine of play during matches.
