- Gravikord
The gravikord is an electric double
harp invented and patented byRobert Grawi in 1986. It is modeled after the 21 string West African kora. It is made of welded stainless steel tubing, with 24nylon strings but no resonating gourd or skin. The bridge is a synthetic material designed very differently from the kora and the range of pitches is greater. While the hands are in a more ergonomic and natural position to the strings, the playing technique is similar to that of the kora: the player plucks the strings with the thumb and index finger of each hand. The instrument is tuned in a strictly symmetrical alternate tuning, not in the very asymmetrical traditional kora tuning. The Gravikord Duo
The Gravikord Duo is consisted of Robert Grawi on his lyrical new cross-cultural instrument, with Pip Klein on classical silver flute and world percussion. (Quote from their [http://www.hvmusic.com/listing/bands_detail.php?listing_id=821 HV Music Profile] ) "Pip's tropical bird-like flute, and Bob's punchy polyrhythmic strings blend into their own new folk and jazzy pop instrumentals." Their music has been characterized as "New-Folk-Chamber-Jazz." People everywhere love hearing and seeing something new. The Gravikord Duo has played at many locations thought the world.
