1911 Adelaide Carnival

1911 Adelaide Carnival

The 1911 Adelaide Carnival was the second Australian rules football interstate carnival and first to take place in South Australia. The hosts won the carnival after winning all of their four games, including a famous win against the Victorian team.

Teams

Aside from South Australia, the carnival hosted New South Wales, Tasmania, the VFL and Western Australia. Unlike in the 1908 Melbourne Carnival, all teams were grouped in the one section and played each other once.

Players

The winner of the carnival three years earlier, the VFL had a strong group of players which included Fred Baring, Alan Belcher, Ernie Cameron, Jack Cooper, Bill Eason, George Heinz, Dick Lee, Jock McHale and Viv Valentine.

South Australia, captained by Bert Renfrey, had five present and future Magarey Medalists in Vic Cumberland, Richard Head, Sampson Hosking, Tom Leahy and Dave Low. Others in the side included Port Adelaide's Harold Oliver, Arthur Taylor from West Torrens and South Adelaide great Jack Tredrea.
