Richard Henry Jesse

thumb|right|150px|Jesse_as_President_of_the_University of Missouri] Richard Henry Jesse was a American educator and eighth president of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. [ [http://www.umsystem.edu/ums/president/former.shtml Former Presidents | Office of the President | University of Missouri ] at www.umsystem.edu] He was born in Lancaster County, Virginia 1853 and attended the University of Virginia. [ [http://whmc.umsystem.edu/invent/3806.html WHMC-Columbia--Jesse, Richard Henry (1853-1921), Papers, 1871-1932 (C3806)--INVENTORY ] at whmc.umsystem.edu] He went on to teach at the University of Louisiana and Tulane University before assuming the presidency 1891. He retired in 1908. Jesse Hall on the David R. Francis Quadrangle is named in honor of him and was initiated as an Honorary member of the Acacia Fraternity.
