railway station on theEast Coast Main Line in the English county ofCambridgeshire . Although trains still pass on the now electrified railway the station closed in 1958.Opened by the
Great Northern Railway as Abbotts Ripton it became part of theLondon and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. Renamed Abbots Ripton, the station then passed on to theEastern Region of British Railways onnationalisation in 1948, and was closed by theBritish Transport Commission ten years later.Abbots Ripton rail disaster This occurred at the station on
21 January 1876 , when the Flying Scotsmanexpress train fromEdinburgh toLondon was involved in a doublecollision during ablizzard .
