Kanga Cup

The Kanga Cup is a youth association football tournament hosted by Capital Football, held every July in Canberra, Australia over a 5 day period.

The tournament is open to club, school associations or community based teams. 2008 marks the 18th year of the tournament, making it the longest running youth tournament in the southern hemisphere.fact|date=May 2008

Venue

The Kanga Cup was first held in Sydney in 1991, and has taken place in Canberra since 1993.

The opening ceremony, which takes place on the first day of the competition, is held at Canberra Stadium. Over 12,000 young footballers participate in around 100 teams, with both boy and girl team competitions being run from 10 to 18 years of age.

Countries

The Kanga Cup accepts teams both from Australia and from nations worldwide, such as Denmark, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, Georgia, East Timor, Fiji, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, the People's Republic of China and the United States.

McDonald's Corporation has been the main sponsor of the Kanga Cup since its inauguration in 1991. McDonald's also owns the naming rights of competition, officially naming it "The McDonald's Kanga Cup". In 2007, the company renewed their Kanga Cup Sponsorship.fact|date=May 2008

Other Sponsors include Australian Capital Tourism, Canberra Milk, 104.7 Canberra, Mix 106.3, Murrays Travel, FourFourTwo, Football Federation Australia and FIFA.
