Greenville County Youth Orchestra

The Greenville County Youth Orchestra (GCYO), sometimes referred to as the Young Artists' Orchestra is the orchestra-in-residence at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, SC, which is operated by the Greenville County School District. The GCYO is one of two advanced full youth symphony orchestras (consisting of woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion) in Greenville; the other being the Carolina Youth Symphony, which is affiliated with Furman University. Every year, the Greenville County Youth Orchestra holds three Young Artist's Concerts at the [http://www.peacecenter.org/ Peace Center for the Performing Arts] showcasing fine soloists from the orchestra, as well hosting many community-oriented activities and concerts. World Premiers of the Following Works: " [http://gcyo.net/gyco-fifth-season.wmv A Fifth Season] " (composed to commemorate the addition of the "Four Seasons" wooden sculpture to the Fine Arts Center lobby), "Rondo Bacchanale" (for violin and orchestra), "Soliloquy", [http://gcyo.net/grier_clip.wmv "The Number of Things"] , "In Pursuit", and "Felis Imperius" by [http://www.newertunes.com/ Jon Jeffrey Grier] , composer-in-residence for GCYO and the Fine Arts Center.
Alumni of the orchestra have gone on to study at such fine institutions as the Cleveland Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music, Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, and University of Michigan.

2008-2009 Season

In the summer of 2009, the orchestra will travel Vienna, Austria for Music Celebration International's Celebrate Haydn Orchestra Festival, to give concerts Vienna's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
