Huddard High School, one of the best and the most reputed schools in the city of Kanpur (in Uttar Pradesh, India) is a CISCE affiliated school having English as the medium of instruction. Established in 1926, the school is one of the oldest schools in the city. The motto of the school is "Let your light shine".

History

Branch, the younger sister of Miss Mercy Roberts, who expired in June 1972.

Mrs. Sophie Shukla belonged to a family of dedicated and devoted Indian Christian Missionaries - her father being a priest and her sister an educationist. The stamp of piety and pedagogy had its lasting impact on her personality and she proved worthy of her family heritage by entering into the teaching profession and in the later years turned into a missionary. She imbibed in her the amalgam of both spirit and wisdom which shines forth through the annals and corridors of Huddard School which aims at producing patriots and great women of letters and science.

Under Mrs. Sophie Shukla's management new buildings were raised and the premises were purchased from its owners and now vests in the name of the institution. During her time the school celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1976 with great pomp and grandeur. She did not live long to see its Diamond Jubilee and expired prematurely in October, 1985. She left behind her a dedicated team of family and friends who carry on her unfinished task.

The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) based in New Delhi.

About The COUNCIL

The COUNCIL was established in 1956 by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate to ensure that its examinations become adapted to the educational needs of the country and assign the ultimate control of the same on the COUNCIL. The COUNCIL was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 19 December, 1967.

The object of the COUNCIL is educational, and includes the promotion of science, literature, the fine arts and the diffusion of useful knowledge by conducting school examinations through the medium of English. The COUNCIL exists solely for educational purposes and not for purposes of profit.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations conducts three examinations, namely, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE – Year 10); The Indian School Certificate (ISC – Year 12) and the Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE – Year 12). The subject choices and syllabuses prescribed for these examinations are varied and aimed at nurturing the unique gifts of individual pupils

The ICSE (YEAR 10)
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education has been designed to provide an examination in a course of general education, in accordance with the recommendations of the new education policy 1986, through the medium of English, private candidates are not permitted to appear for this examination.

The ISC (YEAR 12)
The Indian School Certificate Examination is an examination, through the medium of English, designed in accordance with the recommendations of the new education policy 1986, after a two–year course of studies beyond the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Year 10) examination or its equivalent.

Admission/Registration

Registration and Admission Procedure
(a) Registration for new Academic Session begins in the first week of February every year. Registration forms can be obtained from the school office on all working days between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
(b) Admission is open for all, irrespective of class, creed and community.
(c) A child's name will not be registered for admission unless the under mentioned information has been provided by the parent:The Birth Registration Certificate in ORIGINAL for verification; No change in the date of birth will be permitted later under any circumstances.
(d) The registration of a child's name does not carry any guarantee of admission, which will depend on the number of seats available in the class for which the applicant is registered.
(e) Admission will be granted at the sole discretion of the Principal. Consideration will be given to children whose parents or brothers or sisters have studied in this school.
(f) The School rules are subject to change at the discretion of the school. The admission of a child will mean a complete acceptance by the parent/guardian of all school rules as in force or as amended from time to time.
(g) All new admissions are on probation for a year. Children, who make little progress owning to persisting idleness or proved incapacity, may be required to leave at the end of the year.
(h) The school reserves the right of refusing admission/re-admission without assigning any reason for doing so.

Guidelines for Parents
1. Parents are expected to play their part by enforcing regularity, punctuality and discipline, by attending Parent Teachers Meetings regularly and by ensuring that their children prepare lessons.
2. Politeness and courtesy of speech and conduct should be inculcated in the child along with cleanliness of dress and person.
3. Parents should see that their ward comes to school neatly dressed and in proper uniform.
4. Parents and their servants are requested not to enter the classroom during class hours.
5. Parents are requested not to send for, or take away their children during class hours, expect in cases of unforeseen emergency.
6. Parents are allowed to meet the teachers on every Saturday after school.
7. Parents should arrange to take their children home within 30 minutes after the school is over, otherwise the school will not be responsible.
8. Parents should be particular that their wards give all the Exams and Tests (unless the pupil is sick for which a Medical Certificate should be produced promptly).
9. Parents, guardians and pupils should be fully acquainted with the rules and regulations contained in the Prospectus. Ignorance will be no excuse.

Progress Reports
Parents are kept informed of the academic attainment of their children through Progress Reports which are sent out periodically at the end of each period of assessment. The final Report, at the end of the academic year, indicates the average grade obtained by the student in each subject in the course of the year.

Withdrawals
1. A clear calendar month's notice in writing or a month's fee in lieu of notice must be given before a pupil is withdrawn.
2. The Principal can, in the interest of the school, remove a student from the school for the following reasons :(a) Where in the opinion, the student has failed to accept the discipline of the school and her continued presence may be detrimental to the interest of the students;(b) Where the student fails to come up to the required academic standards expected of her.
This would be in the interest of the student so that she may leave the school when she is still young enough to benefit by joining a school more suitable to her.

Uniform

It is compulsory for all primary and secondary school students to wear the required uniform which must bear the school monogram showing the school logo and the school name.

Students are also required to wear school belts, school socks and black shoes with the above uniform. The school monogram is generally sewed as a pocket onto the shirt at the left chest by the Junior and Secondary school students.

The above uniform is for weekdays. The school has a special uniform for Saturdays and for special events like Independence Day, Republic Day, Teacher's Day, Children's Day etc.

There is no change in the uniform of the infant school students but the junior and secondary school students do have. They are dressed up in full white.

The school emphasizes greatly on personal neatness and discipline. Being out of uniform is considered to be the violation of the two and hence the violation of the school rules. Also, the fingernails should be trimmed and the hair be groomed.

Extracurricular activities

The school offers extensive extra-curricular activities including basketball, football, swimming, cricket, tennis, debate, elocution, dramatics, quizzes, music, Tae-Kwon-Do/Karate and many more. Basketball is the major game played in the school. The three basketball courts prove the same.

The students are divided into four houses, mainly for promoting academic and athletic competition among students. Each house is run by a housemaster, who is assisted by a senior student known as the House Captain. There is one senior student who serves as School Captain, and is assisted by School Prefects from each of the houses. The student who looks after the sports in the school serves as Sports Captain. There are also Vice Captains in each of the above mentioned fields.

"Huddard Alma Mater" is the school song of Huddard High School. It is written in the form of a hymn comprising three verses. The verses to the song are:

Apart from the school song, there is also a prayer for the school which goes like this:
