Anne Panning grew up in
Arlington, Minnesota and attendedAugsburg College . She graduated in 1988 with a degree in English and then joined thePeace Corps . She served in thePhilippines and then returned to the United States to study for herMFA inCreative Writing atBowling Green State University inOhio ; she graduated in 1993. Panning's first collection of short stories, "The Price of Eggs", was published by Coffeehouse Press in 1992. Her next collection, "Super America", was published in 2007 by
University of Georgia Press . The latter is also the winner of the 2006Flannery O'Connor Award and was reviewed inThe New York Times .Her short stories and essays have appeared in
