April Ieremia

Netball career

Ieremia was known as one of New Zealand's best goal-attack players, playing provincial netball for Canterbury from 1986–96. At age 20, Ieremia represented the Silver Ferns (New Zealand's national netball team) at the 1987 Netball World Championships, remaining with the team until her retirement in 1996. Ieremia also contested the 1991 and 1995 Netball World Championships and as many international test series. Ieremia gained 52 caps for the Silver Ferns and captained the side for a test series against Wales in 1992.

Sports commentating career

After retiring from international netball, Ieremia became a sports reporter for ONE News from 1997 until 1999. In 1997, Ieremia won the Qantas Media Award for Best Presenter. In 2000, she became a sports commentator at ONE Sport for the National Bank Cup, Netball World Championships and the ASB Classic international tennis championship in Auckland, in addition to reporting. Ieremia retired from sport commentating at the end of 2003.

General television career

Ieremia previously hosted a television talk show called "April's Angels", shown on TV2 in 1998. [ [http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/434905/982287 TVNZ profile] . Retrieved on 2008-06-02.] She currently hosts a television talk show on The Living Channel, Channel 8 on SKY Television called "April in the afternoon". The show started on April 1st, 2008 and airs from 5.30 - 6.00pm weekdays; it repeats at midnight and 9am the following morning.

Personal life

In 2002, Ieremia married Andrew Bruce, adopting her husband's surname. Their marriage was publicly rocky, and in 2006 they announced their divorce, after which April reverted to her maiden name.
