John Spender

John Spender

John Michael Spender (born 2 December 1935) is a former Australian politician. Born in Sydney, the son of politician Percy Spender, he attended Yale University before becoming a barrister. In 1980 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for North Sydney. He held the seat until his defeat by prominent independent Ted Mack.cite web|last=Carr|first=Adam|title=Australian Election Archive|work=Psephos, Adam Carr's Election Archive|url=http://psephos.adam-carr.net/countries/a/australia|year=2008|accessdate=2008-05-24] In 1996 he was appointed Australian Ambassador to France, a position he held until 2000.

He is married to fashion designer Carla Zampatti who holds a board position with a major tobacco firm and has three children.
