Americas High School First opened its doors on September 1996. Being a new school it enrolled seventh, eighth and ninth graders. That first generation of ninth graders became the first generation to graduate in May 2000. Hispanics, Caucasians, African Americans, are a part of the students of Americas High School. AHS can be referred as the melting pot school of El Paso, Texas, due to the variety of races the exist in this school.
Extracurricular Activities
Americas High School has a variety of extracurricular activities, from football to the band. The Americas High School Blazer Marching Band is a consecutive participant in the Bands of America competitions and a state band. They have received consecutive 1st division ratings on the UIL competitions and SISD Marching Festivals. Americas is proud to sponsor the AHS Fortissimo group, this Winter Guard group have won many regional competitions as well as national competitions. Fortissimo received second place in the 2007 WGI World Competition. Americas High School has other extracurricular activities such as football, cross-country, cheerleading, baseball, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, wrestling, and several other sports.
Americas High School has also built a very strong wrestling program...winning 6 district championships the last 5 of those in the last 5 years. In 2001 Mark Mendoza won the schools first individual state title at 145 lbs. 5 years later Kevin Jury won another state title at 125 lbs.
